IELTS Cue Card Answer to Describe an Activity That You do After School

What is It?

A healthy life is a wealthy life and there is also a famous and precious proverb ‘Health is Wealth’, well I truly believe in the proverb and follow it. Fitness, hygiene and health have always been my priority and everyday I perform the task. I do Yoga after school for an hour.

When and Where do You do It?

There is a park nearby our school, where it is pleasant and calm. It is a five-minute walk from the school and I really enjoy walking down the street, where it is full of trees and plants. The place is near my society and I like to visit the place everyday.

I like doing yoga in a calm place and yoga is an ancient form of exercise. It has numerous health benefits and can help in decreasing many health issues. Yoga is the perfect sequence of meditation and pranayama. Yoga helps you physically, mentally, solely and psychologically. Therefore, it helps me evaluate all the negative thoughts and helps me to calm down.

Who do You do it With?

My friend Zara joins me at the weekend. Everyday there are people whom I know in the park and there is a yoga club in the park which can be joined by anyone and we all do yoga together. Yoga helps me to develop positive thoughts and helps me relieve all the stress after a long tiring day at school.

Yoga also helps boost your immunity as we all know that coronavirus has affected people who have less immunity, so this is the best way to boost your immunity. So, when a pandemic like this arrives, one will be healthy and ready to fight it.

How do You Feel about It?

Yoga is a blend of many different moves and asanas. Every asana is specially designed for one’s mental and physical health. Yoga is something that should be done step by step so that you don’t tire your body much. I feel blessed to have known this form of exercise and do it daily. I feel that yoga is now an important part of my life. Yoga helps to maintain my mind at peace and also helps me think clearly in difficult situations. So, I recommend yoga be performed by everybody.

What is It?

My childhood was full of adventure. I was the academic topper of my class, but I had done all the adventurous things as well. I am a bookworm and love to read various novels and dictionaries. I have always used up my pastime, surfing various books and novels, to increase my knowledge and vocabulary. Well, this is childish, but  I have a dream to be locked in the largest book library for a month, so I can read as many books as I want.

When and Where Do You Do It?

After school, I used to sneak into the library of our school, with the help of our school librarian. Since my childhood, she has been providing me with books, when she saw how my eyes twinkled when I looked at them. She was my favourite teacher in my school. After school, for an hour, I used to spend my time at the library.

There are various books in our library. I liked to read fantasy, adventure and mystery from the novels and my first series of books were Goosebumps, you know the thin books that we get of each story. Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter were in the boom, I loved reading books over watching the movies. I had always had a taste for literature and writing a novel on my own.

Who Do You Do It With?

There was a friend of mine, she also had an interest in reading books and sometimes joined me as she had violin classes after school. Her interest was in classic and romantic books, she was a big fan of Pride and Prejudice. We both had various common favourite books and our top favourite book was Little Women. Reading books, talking about them and writing your thoughts about them has always been my pastime after school.

Well, it is not an exercise, but it helps me calm down and travel to another world. It helps me disconnect from this busy world and helps me believe that in this world, we can still find solace and peace.

How Do You Feel about It?

I feel great because when you read books sincerely, you can help yourself mentally and psychologically. It helps you gain knowledge and also helps you to forget your worries for some time, which I feel is a good thing. Because our brain is also like a machine, it needs rest, and doing something which interests you, helps you to think clearly. Apart from a sincere life, I also enjoyed this mischievous life a bit. I could do something, I am interested in and that is something, I feel everyone should do.

Part 3: IELTS Speaking Exam Follow-up Questions

Question 1: What is the Most Popular Outdoor Game in Your Country?

There are many outdoor games in India like Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, etc. But, out of all of them, I think cricket is the most famous and popular one though our national game is hockey. Cricket is watched by everyone, from youngsters to old people and there is no one gender greater than other when it comes to watching cricket. Everyone in our neighbourhood sat and watched the game when the test series began.

Question 2: What do You Think Youngsters do in Groups?

Youngsters have many things that they do in groups, some play sports, some are study groups, some visit cinemas, some chill out at restaurants, etc. Well, our group is a bit of a study group, we read books, journals, newspapers, novels, magazines and our academic books. We are always found in the library, but we also hang out in a nice park and play outdoor games there.

Question 3: Do You Think People Prefer Movies Over Books? Why?

Yes, only 20 percent of people read novels and 80 percent watch movies. Well, that’s a little saddening because books don’t have a chance when it comes to movies vs books. I think everyone has their own perspective and choice, and I think there is a large ratio who likes watching movies, so it’s their choice.

Question 4: How Do You Think Books Can Help People Over Movies?

Books help people to increase their imagination. It helps them in two aspects, imagination and visualisation. Movies on the other show you exactly what it is, and that doesn’t help the brain. Reading books and novels is a good exercise for the brain and helps you to think vastly.
