The PTE exam or the Pearson Test of English is one of the most widely written and accepted English language tests worldwide. The purpose of this computer-based test is to evaluate the English language ability of those who wish to move to English-speaking countries like England, Australia, and New Zealand.
PTE test assesses a candidate’s proficiency in English through the Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening tests. This exam is conducted online by Pearson PCL Group at the international level for a duration of three hours. It is accepted by over 6,000 universities across the world.

Types of PTE Tests
The PTE tests are divided into two tests serving two different purposes. They are:
#1. PTE Academic
PTE Academic test is taken by candidates who aspire to move abroad with plans to study by securing admission in institutions or universities abroad. The test is broadly divided into four sections: Writing, Reading, Listening, followed by Speaking and once written, the score will be valid for two years.
#2. PTE General
The test comprises two papers: Speaking and Writing, for testing the basic English ability of the candidates. This test is ideal for those who aim to migrate for work or to settle in an English-speaking country. Once you take the exam, the score is valid for a lifetime.
Eligibility
As per the norms laid down by the Pearson PLC Group for conducting the PTE Exam, there are no specified eligibility criteria. However, a candidate must be above the age of 16 to take the PTE Academic test. The candidates below 18 years should get a consent letter from their parents or guardians to be allowed to take the test. There is no upper age limit or minimum educational qualification criteria set for candidates aspiring to take the PTE test.
Application Fee
To register for the PTE test, candidates will have to pay an exam fee of 13,000 INR.

PTE Exam Dates Booking
Though the exam is conducted many times a year, it is advisable to take the test two months before applying for the universities. This will leave you with sufficient time to prepare well, take the test again if required for a better score, and work on creating a potential list of institutions to apply to.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to register for the PTE test, book the date, and choose the centre.
#1. Create a myPTE account or log in to the existing one.
#2. Enter all the personal details correctly as mentioned in your passport and valid ID proofs.
#3. Choose whether you want to take the PTE Academic test or the PTE General test.
#4. Select the exam centre nearest to you.
#5. Now, you will be shown the available dates to write the exam in your selected centre.
#6. After entering, the candidate will be asked to check the location and date again.
#7. Finish the process by paying through a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Am Ex, JCB) or a debit card( Visa or MasterCard).
#8. Candidates will now receive an acknowledgement receipt which can be saved for later use.
PTE Exam Dates in India in 2021
Every year, PTE exams are conducted throughout the year, and candidates can schedule the test at their convenience. PTE exam dates in India are conducted multiple times a month, and candidates will have to book their slot one month in advance. While the PTE Academic test is held throughout the year, the General test is normally scheduled in February, May, June, November, and December.
