PTE or the Pearson Test of English conducted by the Pearson PLC Group is a computer-based test conducted to assess one’s English language ability. Candidates from non-native English-speaking countries who aspire to move to English-speaking countries for higher studies or work take this test.
Although many similar tests are conducted, Pearson Language Test continues to be one of the most famous and widely accepted. Over 6,000 universities worldwide accept the PTE test score during the admission process to their universities.
The test is divided into four sections- Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The purpose of the test is to assess whether a candidate can communicate with people daily in an English-speaking country. A higher score in the PTE Academic test will also increase your chances of admission to top universities.

The Pearson Language test is conducted in two formats to assess the English language skills of the candidates belonging from non-native English speaking countries:
#1. PTE Academic test
#2. PTE General test
#1. PTE Academic Test
This PTE Academic test is conducted throughout the year and is taken by students who aspire to take admission to a foreign university and move abroad. The exam comprises four sections- Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening. Once the test is written, the test score is valid for two years.
Under the same category, there is a special test called the PTE Academic UKVI.

PTE Academic UKVI
The Academic UKVI, also known as the Secure English Language Test (SELT) is conducted and approved for all UK Visas. This is the most convenient choice for those who wish to move, study, or settle down in the United Kingdom. This test also consists of the same four sections- Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Though both the PTE Academic test and the PTE Academic UKVI do not differ in exam patterns, you can observe minor changes in the registration processes.
#2. PTE General Test
The PTE General test is taken by candidates who wish to move to English-speaking countries for work opportunities and to settle down. However, this test comprises only two sections to assess a candidate’s command over the language: Speaking and Writing. Once written, the PTE General Test is valid for a lifetime.

PTE Exam Fee Structure
All the candidates who wish to appear for the PTE exam have to pay a certain amount of registration fee, and this PTE exam fee is different for people from different countries. The registration fee also differs with respect to the time you are applying for the exam.

Late Registration Fee
PTE allows candidates to book their slots for the test just 48 hours before the test. To avail this option, the candidate has to pay a late fee of 695 INR while registering for the test.
If a candidate wishes to reschedule their already booked exam date, they can do so without any additional costs 14 days before the exam. However, if the due time for the exam is less than 14 days, a candidate has to pay an additional fee for rescheduling. If you are rescheduling the test between 7-14 days before the test, you will be asked to pay 50% of the additional fee to write the test in the updated slot.
If the applicant decides not to appear for the test at all, they can cancel their registration and claim a refund. If you are cancelling the test 14 days before your prescribed exam slot date, you will be eligible to get a complete refund. In case of cancelling the test 7-14 before the exam, the applicant will receive a refund of 50% of the original application fee. If the candidate cancels the exam seven days or less before the exam, they will not be eligible for any refund.

When is the PTE Exam Conducted?
The PTE test is conducted throughout the year in India. While the PTE Academic test is conducted often and multiple times every month, the PTE General test is usually scheduled to be conducted in February, May, June, November, and December.
Though the exam is conducted around the year, experts suggest that it is good for applicants to take the test at least two months before the dates of applying to the target universities. This gives ample time to think about the score, retake the test if required, and create a potential list of universities or institutions to apply to.
