Pattern of the IELTS Speaking Test

The speaking section of the IELTS test is divided into three parts. During the first part of the IELTS exam, you will be asked questions based on a range of topics to which you are familiar. This part lasts for 4 to 5 minutes. The second part of the IELTS exam contributes the most to your band score. You will be given a cue card and will be asked to talk about the topic mentioned on the cue card.

In the third section of the speaking test, you will be asked more questions connected to the topic given to you in the second part. This will allow you to discuss the topic in a much more abstract manner.
