Analysis Of The IELTS Writing Task 1 Question: Letter Of Complaint To A Hotel

You have a complaint about the hotel you stayed at while attending a meeting that was booked by the organiser of a company meeting. Write a letter to the organiser of the meeting and include

  • Details about the meeting
  • The problem you face
  • What should be done

Here, you are required to write a letter of complaint to the organiser of a meeting regarding a hotel you’ve stayed in. You did not like a certain aspect about the hotel that you were put up in and so, you wish to express your grievance.

You will need to include details about the meeting that took place, the issues that inconvenienced you as well as the action that needs to be taken. Elaborate on reasons behind feeling the displeasure and state how you felt. Finally, write about the possible solution for this experience and conclude respectfully.

Brainstorming

How do we approach this IELTS writing task 1 topic?

In the introductory paragraph, write about the reason behind writing this letter with a proper salutation. The body paragraph will contain details about how your stay was unpleasant at the hotel. Mention the specifics there so that the person who is receiving the letter understands why you were inconvenienced.

Lastly, the conclusion should contain the manner in which such a situation should be dealt with. The possible compensation that you should be offered can also be mentioned here. End your letter with a proper greeting and also state your name.

Ideal Letter

Dear New Plant Company,

I am writing from Sigma Tech Company to write about the conference that you had hosted last week. The conference was held at the Hilton Hotel in Delhi from the 10th – 13th January, 2022.

There were a couple of inconveniences during our stay at the hotel. The rooms that were allotted to us were pretty small and lacked basic facilities such as a kettle, toiletries and a locker. Moreover, the food that was served to us on all the days was strictly non-vegetarian. There were no vegetarian options available and so, a few of us had to eat outside. We tried contacting you but you were unavailable.

I think you should look into this as urgently as you can so that the reputation of your company is not tarnished. An unprofessional conduct such as this needs serious attention and we hope for appropriate compensation for the hassle that we had to endure.

Looking forward to hearing from you on this matter

Best Regards,

Githa
