Mobile phones are an intrinsic part of our lives now as most things are possible through the tap of a phone. Be it getting groceries or medicines delivered, booking a cab , paying bills, sending emails or just general communication; everything is done using mobile phones.
Today, I will be talking about a time when I had used my mobile phone to do something meaningful. While I was in college, one of my friends informed me about her dog’s disappearance. Her dog had suddenly disappeared from the house and no one was able to retrieve him. She suspected foul play and was confused regarding what needed to be done.
I remembered clicking several pictures of her dog, Yanky, on my phone. I immediately posted a picture of Yanky on my social media platforms so as to let people know about his disappearance. For over two hours, we did not receive an update on that post but just when college classes were about to end for the day, we received an update from a random person.
Some friend of mine had shared my post on her wall and someone who she knew had seen Yanky earlier in the day. He reached out to me and told me how he had witnessed a couple of miscreants with the same dog near his store. My friend and I got in touch with him and took down the necessary details. We decided to go looking for Yanky after our classes ended.
On reaching his vicinity, we noticed suppressed barks from a nearby garage. Initially reluctant, the people who were outside the garage had to give in when we threatened them with calling the police. We found Yanky inside where he was sitting in a pool of blood. Those hoodlums had physically abused him for the sake of deriving sadistic pleasure. We thanked the man who had informed us about Yanky and also lodged a complaint at the local police station against the men who had kidnapped him.
We later found out how these people had committed similar kidnappings of pets in the past as they detested animals. My friend profusely thanked me and insisted that I come over to her place for dinner. I too felt slightly proud of myself for having contributed towards recovering my friend’s pet. It was one of those times when having a mobile phone felt good and truly meaningful.
