INTRODUCTION

In today’s blog, we shall be discussing the IELTS Speaking Cue Card Round topic that had come in June, 2022 at Mumbai – Talk about the most difficult decision you had to take

ANALYSIS OF THE QUESTION

Let’s read the question again- Talk about the most difficult decision you had to take

We have all taken difficult decisions at some point in our lives. Some of them have proven to be advantageous while others have caused regret.
Think about that one difficult decision that you were compelled to take and then jot some bullets related to it. Build your speech on the basis of the bullets.

MIND MAP:

Let’s create a mind map of the topic at hand.

Creating a mind map helps us remain fixated on the topic we are presented with and avoid deviations. Writing the main topic in the center and then jotting down relevant points associated with it will help us build our speech systematically.

Let’s observe the mind map drawn below

ATTEMPT:

Decisions have the ability to influence the way our life is lived. We always have a choice and our choices determine the quality of our lives. All of us have to take certain calls that hugely shape our future or other peoples’ futures.

There was a time in my life when I had to postpone moving to London for my higher education. My grandfather wasn’t keeping well and the entire household was caught up with physician visits, ordering medicines, instructing the nurses. The entire atmosphere of my house had turned grim and this had driven me into an unpleasant state of mind. I was not able to completely focus on my preparations or other necessary formalities like the selection of universities, courses and the like.

This had happened right after I had gotten done with my class twelve exams and these string of incidents had led me into taking a very difficult call. I decided to postpone my plan of moving to the United Kingdom by at least a year.

I decided to enroll myself at a local college and continue studying so that there wouldn’t be a gap. Initially, I was quite heartbroken and disillusioned as studying at a local college was something that I had not been looking forward to doing but with time, I started feeling like my old self. In fact, I decided to complete my graduation from the same college and then move to some other country for my postgraduate studies.

Now, when I think about it, I feel differently than I did at that point of time. I do not regret my decision mainly because I was able to give my grandfather the time that he needed. I also realized that I was quite inexperienced at that time. Moving to another country would have been fraught with challenges that I was not mature enough to handle back then. There are lessons that life teaches you in the guise of something unexpected and I strongly believe that He was trying to look out for me by delaying the plan that I had chalked out for myself.
