Let’s take a look at the IELTS listening practice test 2021 with answers given in this article.
IELTS Listening Exam Pattern
In the IELTS listening exam, applicants must listen to the audio with the utmost concentration in order to answer a sequence of questions that follow each recording. More specifically, there will be:
# 4 recordings in various English languages and dialects will be played just once
# 10 or more questions for each audio
# 30 minutes to do the objectives
# 10 minutes to put the answers in the answer sheet
IELTS Listening Question Types
There are 6 sorts of questions in the IELTS listening exam, and students must practise the IELTS listening practise test extensively to fully understand each of them.
Multiple Choice Questions
The applicant will choose the correct response from three possibilities or finish the phrase by picking the proper finish.
The applicant must match a numerical list of possibilities from the listening text with a set of alternatives on the response sheet. This can be improved by combining several IELTS listening strategies.
Arrange, Design, Classifying
The applicant must fill in the labels by producing either a plan, such as a construction label, or a map of a section of the hamlet, or a drawing or a portion of furniture. The answers are given in the form of lists on the question paper.
Design, Note, Flow-chart, Summary Completion
In this case, examiners must fill in the blanks of an overview or all of the listening contents. The overview will focus on the text’s primary ideas or facts.
This question requires test takers to read a collection of sentences and fill in the gaps by summarising significant information from all or portions of it. There are additional word limitations indicated below, which if not obeyed will result in a penalty.
Short Answer Questions
Candidates are asked to read a question and then write a brief response based on information from the listening text. There is a word restriction here as well, which will be fined if exceeded.

IELTS Preparation Tips for Listening
Any of the 3 accents, British, Canadian, or Australian, can be used. They all have their own distinct twang and way of pronouncing various terms. There are also a few words that must be memorised. For example, the popularly used ‘nought’ is not widely used in India. Based on the circumstances, it might signify zero, failure, or nothing.
In some ways, the listening exam is harsh since you can only hear it all once, and if you’ve skipped the material, there’s really no way to get it back.
The info in the recording is not obvious. There are four sections, two of which are discussions between two or more persons. Distractors or facts altering as the tape proceeds will be found in these exchanges.
You must listen, read, and write all at once. Yes, there will be no reprieve until the audio clip is completed. Long durations of focus are required to pass this exam.
We hope that you have got an idea about the test pattern, question types and some other essential details. However, in order to perform well in all of the papers, there must be equal emphasis on academic reading, writing, and IELTS speaking. You can find a lot of listening samples on the official website of IDP and the British Council.
