Before jumping on to the variety of questions asked in the IELTS exam. Let us briefly discuss the IELTS reading section.

For IELTS reading, applicants simply need to read a passage and answer the queries that follow within a certain period of time. As IELTS is performed for higher studies as an IELTS academic and IELTS general training for work and immigration purposes, the reading portion of IELTS for these two versions is a little different. The key distinction between academic reading and general training reading of IELTS is the subjects and source of the sets or parts or passages.

What to Expect in the IELTS Academic Reading section?

There will be three passages in the IELTS academic reading sections and the origins of the passage may be:

  • Books
  • Biography
  • Magazine
  • Journals

Reading for Gist, searching, understanding logical arguments, key ideas, and more will be available. There will be a collection of questions right after each passage. Some of the passages have twelve and some have 14 or 14, so the total number of questions would be 40.

There will be many nuances in the passages and the candidates need to clearly understand the factual and theoretical points to correctly answer the questions.

What to Expect in IELTS General Reading Section

On the other hand, the IELTS general training exam subjects are more closely related to the current news and workplace-related subjects. This is primarily due to the general IELTS preparation that is intended for people seeking placements in English-speaking countries. The origins of the topics of general training reading for IELTS are:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Notices
  • Announcements
  • Advertising
  • Handbooks from the company
  • Guidelines from the company
  • HR tactics

The passages are very much like the issues covered every day by the workers.
