INTRODUCTION:

Here, we will be discussing the topic that came up during the IELTS Speaking Cue Card test held in September at Mumbai – Describe a movie you saw.

ANALYSIS OF THE QUESTION

Don’t we all love watching movies? The genres may be different but we are always up for some drama or action that’s taking place on screen.
The topic – Describe a movie you saw is quite direct. It asks you to give a description of any movie that you’ve seen for about two minutes. Write down some cues related to the topic so that it’ll be easier for you to deliver along those pointers.

MIND MAP

Let’s create a mind map of the topic at hand – Describe a movie you saw.

Creating a mind map helps us remain fixated on the topic we are presented with and avoid deviations. Writing the main topic in the center and then jotting down relevant points associated with it will help us build our speech systematically.

Let’s observe the mind map drawn below.

ATTEMPT

Movies have this beautiful way of charming you with their plots. They serve as a beautiful distraction from the regular hustle and bustle of the life that we lead.

I recently saw this film called ‘ Murder On The Orient Express.’ The director of the film, Kenneth Branaugh was inspired by the book which goes by the same name and decided to translate it into a film. He had put in considerable research while shooting for the movie.
I saw this film last weekend when I was returning home from my aunt’s place that’s located a bit further away from the city that I live in. I was looking for some suggestions on a blog and this film came up there.

The film was engrossing until the very end and kept me guessing until its climax scene. It is based on Author Agatha Christie’s book that goes by the same name and is about the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. The film was about a murder that had taken place on the train, Orient Express. The detective kept everyone guessing until the very final moment. The pace of the film was good and the direction was also outstanding.

The film had many beautiful messages throughout and was inspiring in some ways. Its central theme was love although the genre that it belongs to would be crime fiction.

My favourite character from the film would be Hercule Poirot not just because he was the protagonist but also because his acting prowess was brilliant. He really stood out in the role and was quite convincing. It was evident that the actor had put in a lot of work in order to pull off that character. It is a must watch for those who enjoy the genre of crime.
