The University of Manitoba or U of M, UM or U Manitoba is a public, non-denominational, research university in Manitoba, Canada. The university was founded in 1877, and it was the first university or institution in western Canada.
The university was formed by the federation of three conferred degrees on students graduating from these colleges and denominational colleges: Manitoba College (Presbyterian), St John’s College (Anglican) and Collège de Saint-Boniface (Roman Catholic).
