उम्मीदवारों द्वारा की जाने वाली सामान्य गलतियाँ शामिल हैं:

• Being unclear in pronunciation

  Correct pronunciation is essential when speaking on a topic. This is where non-native English speakers tend to falter. While this may not be a judging criteria it is an important factor which portrays the level of preparation.

• Getting nervous while speaking

  Do no panic while speaking your answer out. There is absolutely no need to! Keep in mind that you are just communicating some thoughts and ideas to another person (who is the interviewer).

Technical Errors made widely

• Not using relevant vocabulary

  In an attempt to use impressive vocabulary candidates tend to use heavy words in irrelevant places and make the speech look very imposed. To top this, it may be difficult to come up with heavy words in the short duration of one minute which is given to collate points. To do well in this section, you will have to ensure that you have read well enough so that you can produce a good speech in this section of your exam.

• Not addressing the objective of the topic

  Many a times candidates start speaking off topic and do not speak about the topic that they are supposed to. This shows that the candidate was not able to interpret the question right. To tackle this read the question carefully and understand what the question expects out of you. Then go ahead to collate your points.

  Cohesion and coherence refer to explanation of a concepts in a few lines, clearly. People either try to cram the entire idea in one sentence and the sentence becomes too long and complicated. Whereas some people make it so elaborate that they miss out on covering the main objective of the entire question.
