While you start the answer keep a few points in mind. You need to start by mentioning what type of person you are. You can tell about your choice whether you are a simple person, who prefers simple dresses and attires or you try to explore new combinations and new types of clothes and accessories.


“Earlier I was not into much fancy dressing, furthermore I never cared about how my dress is or how I will look, but since the last 4 years, I have become really conscious about my dressing. Now I explore my dressing style, and I am not afraid of buying new clothes for myself. One of my favourite clothes is black dress. It is a beautiful dress that only suits me.”

“It is close to my heart because first it was a gift and second it perfectly fits me. It looks like it was made for me and I haven’t seen anybody else wearing the same kind of dress. Towards the end of your answer, you can mention how often you wear it and on what occasions you prefer to wear it.

Follow up Questions

After you finish your answer, you will get a few follow-up questions to answer on the basis of whatever you have told the evaluator. There is no specific list of questions, from which the evaluator will ask you but for your help and to give an idea we have given a few of the questions that might be asked. Make sure that the answer you give for the follow-up questions is synched with the answer that you gave. If there is any discrepancy then a question on your authenticity of the answer may pop in. So it’s better that you stick to what you said and answer accordingly. So few follow up questions that can be asked are:

  1. What is the traditional dress in the region where you live?
  2. What is the difference between your traditional dress and dress worn in this state?
  3. What dress should people wear for the office?
  4. What made your dress different from others?
  5. What is your opinion on school uniforms? Should it be there or not?
  6. Do you prefer online shopping?
  7. Which one do you prefer more: online shopping or offline shopping?

Scoring in the speaking section in the IELTS exam is tougher than you think. As even minor details are being evaluated while you are speaking. And we many times forget to focus on those minor details as a result of scoring badly in the speaking section. The speaking section calls for rigorous practice and using smart tricks.
