The speaking test is the second part of the IELTS exams which tests you for your competence in language fluency and speech. It is carried out face-to-face with a specially qualified specialist in speech and linguistics by video call appointments to rate you. You’re given a cue card with a subject or a topic you’re going to chat about on the spot. A long training time of 1 minute is granted and you can talk for an average of 3 minutes.

In general, the questions are descriptive forms that ask you to identify a number of items, encounters, persons, or your fields of interest, such as an old friend or your favourite family, or your favourite holiday destination, or your favourite hobby.

IELTS Exam Sample Answer One: Describe a Person Who has Apologized to You

Well, I guess we all tend to make certain mistakes now and then in life, often purposely, often accidentally, but then we usually regret them. I’m still trying to apologise for what I’m doing wrong, and I demand the same from everyone, of course. So, my friend borrowed my car for a day last month and he knows very well that I’m very possessive of my car. I asked him to take good care of it, because I know he’s not a very good driver, and that’s probably why his dad doesn’t buy his own car for him.

Question Part

But he promised me to drive it very slowly and safely, but he seemed very low when he returned it in the evening and he told me that when he was caught in a traffic jam, someone struck the car from the rear and it forced him to hit the car in front of him. He felt very bad for not taking care of the car, and he repeatedly apologised for his mistake, and the next morning he told me that he would have it fixed first.

Question Part

However, I felt sorry for him, but very sad at the same time that my car was destroyed, but I knew deep in my head that this was not his fault. I typically lose my patience quickly, but it was because of his heartfelt apologies that I was unable to stay upset with him for a very long time. But the next day, he went to the mechanic with me and, thankfully, the damage wasn’t too bad or costly to repair. He again apologised and told me that in the future he will be more careful. We are already good friends and I find like the only way to preserve and make relationships better is to accept an apology and forgive others.

IELTS Exam Sample Answer Two: Describe a Person Who has Apologized to You

Individuals commit mistakes. Although if they genuinely apologise to the affected parties, the guilt of those failures should not weigh too heavily on the wrongful individuals. Today, I want to write about one of those sincere people who, a few months ago, apologised to me.

Question Part

In a superstore, he was a cashier-a super shop that I have visited very regularly over the last couple of years or so. But, like I’m talking about, the cashier was a rookie because I met him for the first time on that snowy day when I bought a bunch of groceries. The new cashier, in fact, checked me out on that day.

Interestingly, though, as I made the payment to the cashier, I felt that I was spending a little more than what I usually used to spend on previous occasions for exactly the same price of the product. Still, I opted to stay silent, hoping that I may have ordered some extra merchandise, or that the prices of some of the supermarket goods had increased. So, I just went to my grocery store and left the store.

Question Part

But I became a little too interested after reaching my house and tested the prices of my grocery goods. Suddenly, I found that one of the items was over-priced on the receipt that the cashier gave me before leaving the store. Fortunately, not far from my home was the mega supermarket. So the next day, in a relaxed mood, I went back to the cashier and told him about the wrong amount, and he paid me for one of my grocery products. He quickly apologised very deeply to me after learning about his error, reminding me that on that day he had just begun his new career.

I wasn’t expecting him to apologise to me like that, to be honest because it wasn’t such a big deal to me. In addition, I knew very well that this kind of error might occur, especially by an individual who was new to his work. Nevertheless, I was happy he finally apologised to me sincerely.
