We will now be discussing ways of dealing with them so that you are able to achieve the desired band score.
APPROACHING COMMON TOPICS
You need to set aside 2 hours for practicing these topics every day. The four sections- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing need to be aced so as to pull up your overall band score. Take 2 topics a day and write essays based on them. Get into the habit of reading newspapers everyday and highlight news that could be related to these topics. This will diversify your knowledge on the topic that you’re already preparing for.
You can also make a list of the vocabulary that is used in these sample essays and then look for more synonyms of those words. In that manner, you will have enriched your lexical knowledge. This will help you in composing sentences while you’re attempting your essay.
HOW DOES ONE ACHIEVE A HIGH BAND SCORE ON THESE TOPICS
Each time you hold conversations with someone you know, talk to them around these topics. Have meaty discussions on subjects such as technology, health, development, environment , government spending and others. This will familiarize you further with the subject and equip you with the knowledge that you need. Listen to podcasts or panel discussions that take place on these topics to know more. You will also expose yourself to the kinds of examples that you will need to substantiate your points with.
You will see a repetition of many topics while you’re appearing for the main test and that’s perfectly normal. The key is to ensure that you are well versed in the topic that is asked. It always makes more sense to prioritize topics that are common over the ones that do not get repeated.
