Habits need to be inculcated at a very tender age in all of us so that we can grow up and become disciplined and strong-willed individuals.

IELTS can get challenging but with the right strategy in mind, acing the exam becomes easier than expected.

The four different sections need to be prepared meticulously so that one’s overall score in the IELTS remains high. If you get into the practice of doing something regularly, you will keep inching closer to perfection.

In this blog, we will be going over 5 daily habits of students who prepare for the IELTS so that you know where to begin

SETTING ASIDE TIME FOR IELTS PREPARATION EVERYDAY

Making an itinerary for the day helps one focus and stay on the right track. Listing down our priorities is important as priorities define who we are as individuals. Setting aside time for your IELTS preparation both during mornings as well as evenings ensures that you get sufficient practice. In order to build a habit, you need to remain focussed towards your goals.

FOCUSSING EQUALLY ON THE DIFFERENT IELTS PARTS

IELTS, as we know, is divided into four sections- Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Getting too caught up while preparing for just one section will prove to be disadvantageous. Your scores in all the four sections will cumulatively pull up your scores in the main IELTS test and so, make sure that you score well in each of the sections.

WRITING WELL STRUCTURED ESSAYS

Essays need to be dealt with strategically. Write a well structured essay by weaving in all points together. Try going over sample essays that have acheived a band score of 7.5 or more as they will give you an idea of how essays need to be composed.

The more you practice writing essays on various topics, the more comfortable you will become with writing essays on topics that fall outside your area of interest.

Do not memorize essays and replicate those memorized essays during your test. This will only pull down your overall score.

The word limit for such essays should not exceed 250 words in order to complete your Writing test on time.

ANALYZE COMPLEX PHRASES ON YOUR OWN

You will often come across words or phrases that you will not be familiar with while you’re preparing for IELTS. Instead of looking up a dictionary, try and understand them on your own. You  need to start comprehending them on your own so that you can build understanding skills. Say, you come across a word such as resplendent. If you do not know the meaning, try reading that phrase again. The phrase may be ‘Rita looked beautiful and resplendent in her attire at her sister’s wedding.’

What could the word possibly mean? It must have something to do with dressing gracefully and beautifully.

WORK ON YOUR HANDWRITING

Your handwriting really determines how legible your writing is. The writing section consists of an essay, a graph or a letter.

Most people lose out on a major chunk of their marks in this section owing to bad handwriting. You can practice writing before the main test.
